General Tips for Loquats
| Storage temperature | Relative Humidity (RH) | Duration | Pre-cooling | Sensitivity to ethylene | Ethylene Production | Controlled Atmosphere |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Storage temperature:
0° C
|
Relative Humidity (RH):
90%-95%
|
Duration:
2-4 weeks
|
Pre-cooling:
Air cooling
|
Sensitivity to ethylene:
Low
|
Ethylene Production:
Low
|
Controlled Atmosphere:
Not recommended
|
Storage Temperature: Recommended storage temperature is 0 °C. |
High Humidity: Use an air-cooler with a low air–product temperature differential (ΔT). |
Storage Duration: Recommended period is 2 – 4 weeks. |
Ozone: Install an ozone-generation device to provide the necessary concentration for microbial load reduction. |
Controlled Atmosphere: Not recommended — uneconomical for small-scale production, with limited benefits compared to total storage time. |
Pre-Cooling: A specialized study of temperature absorption time and airflow velocity is required to ensure uniform cooling throughout the entire product mass. |
IMPORTANT TIPS
- Rapid pre-cooling before shipment and maintenance of the cold chain throughout all transport and handling stages.
- Monitor sugar content at harvest — above 10 °Brix using optical refractometers.
- Disinfect cold-storage chambers before each use.
- Separate and remove over-ripe loquats before storage.
- Maintain low CO₂ concentrations — levels above 10 % cause product deterioration.
