General Tips for Cherimoya
| Storage temperature | Relative Humidity (RH) | Duration | Pre-cooling | Sensitivity to ethylene | Ethylene Production | Controlled Atmosphere |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Storage temperature:
8° - 12° C
|
Relative Humidity (RH):
90%-95%
|
Duration:
2-3 weeks
|
Pre-cooling:
Air cooling
|
Sensitivity to ethylene:
High
|
Ethylene Production:
Very high
|
Controlled Atmosphere:
Not recommended
|
Storage Temperature: Recommended storage temperature is 8 °C – 12 °C. |
High Humidity: Use an air cooler with a low temperature differential (ΔT) between inlet and outlet air. |
Storage Duration: Recommended period is 2 – 3 weeks. |
Ethylene Removal: The use of an ethylene absorption unit is recommended. |
Controlled Atmosphere: Not recommended, as the benefit is minimal (up to 6 weeks total storage). |
Ventilation: A digitally controlled ventilation mechanism should be installed, based on a specialized design study. |
Pre-Cooling: A detailed study of temperature absorption time and air velocity is required to ensure uniform cooling throughout the entire volume of the pre-cooled product. |
IMPORTANT TIPS
- Ensure rapid pre-cooling before shipment and remove ethylene from storage areas.
- Maintain low CO₂ concentrations (5 % – 10 %) to extend storage life — levels above 15 % may cause off-flavors and unpleasant odors.
- Monitor sugar levels during harvest using optical refractometers — ideal values are 14° – 15° Brix.
