General Tips for Lychees
| Storage temperature | Relative Humidity (RH) | Duration | Pre-cooling | Sensitivity to ethylene | Ethylene Production | Controlled Atmosphere |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
|
Storage temperature:
4° - 7° C
|
Relative Humidity (RH):
90%-95%
|
Duration:
2-4 weeks
|
Pre-cooling:
Air cooling
|
Sensitivity to ethylene:
Low
|
Ethylene Production:
Low
|
Controlled Atmosphere:
Not recommended
|
Storage Temperature: Recommended range is 4 °C – 7 °C. |
High Humidity: Choose an air-cooler with a low air–product temperature differential (ΔT). |
Storage Duration: Recommended period is 2 – 4 weeks. |
Controlled Atmosphere: Not recommended — uneconomical for small production volumes and provides minimal advantage compared to conventional storage. |
Ozone: It is advised to install a unit capable of delivering the required ozone concentration to reduce microbial load and preserve fruit surface quality. |
IMPORTANT TIPS
- Rapid cooling and maintaining the cold chain throughout all handling and distribution phases are essential.
- Maintaining elevated CO₂ levels supports product quality but should not exceed ~15 %, as higher concentrations can cause off-odours.
-
Handle lychees with care — they are harvested fully ripe and are non-climacteric fruits, meaning they do not continue ripening after harvest.
