General Tips for Fennel Herb

Storage temperatureRelative Humidity (RH)DurationPre-coolingSensitivity to ethyleneEthylene ProductionControlled Atmosphere
Storage temperature: 0° – 2° C
Relative Humidity (RH): 88%–92%
Duration: 3-4 weeks
Pre-cooling: Air cooling
Sensitivity to ethylene: Medium
Ethylene Production: Low
Controlled Atmosphere: Not recommended

Enhanced Cold Room: A flexible system that allows the existing storage chamber and its refrigeration equipment to be used for light pre-cooling followed by storage.

Natural Airflow Cold Room – Mist Atmosphere: A specialized chamber where natural air circulation combined with fine misting maintains optimal humidity and gentle air movement for highly sensitive produce.

Low-Airflow Cold Room with Continuous Water Circulation: Designed for products requiring very high humidity and low air movement (<25 air exchanges/hour). Humidity is maintained through continuous water flow.

Ethylene Removal: Use of ethylene absorbers is recommended to slow aging and prevent yellowing.

IMPORTANT TIPS
  • Handle fennel carefully at all stages of post-harvest processing.
  • Store fennel in low, shallow layers to avoid compression damage.
  • Use ethylene absorbers within the storage chamber.
  • Maintain high CO₂ levels, as they help retain leaf color and reduce deterioration.
  • Manage CO₂ concentration carefully to maintain internal balance and prevent off-odors.
  • Use modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) to extend freshness and shelf life.
